Local builders with a community-minded approach

We grew up in Selwyn, went to school here, and both entered the building trade straight after finishing school. For years, we worked full-time in construction while also building spec homes in our spare time from 2 bedroom house layouts through to large-scale luxury homes. Early in 2025, we decided to bring our skills together and form Mohs Developments. Since then, we have focused on creating homes that feel considered, practical and well built for customers exploring house and land packages, affordable housing and architectural homes across the district.

Because we manage every stage of a development, our clients deal with the same people from start to finish. That means clear communication, reliable updates and a personal approach whether the outcome is a custom build, home and land package or completed modern property for sale.

Meet the team

Co-Founder

John Nicholls

John stepped into the building industry at sixteen, starting his apprenticeship and quickly developing a strong feel for the craft. Those early years gave him experience across many parts of residential construction, shaping the practical, hands-on approach he brings to every project today.

As a qualified builder and co-founder of MOHS Developments, John plays a key role in guiding projects from the ground up. He has a natural eye for detail and a steady way of keeping things moving, making sure each home is built with care and consistency. He values quality that you can see and workmanship that lasts.

Outside of the business, John spends most of his time outdoors. He’s a keen mountain biker and jet boater and enjoys the freedom that comes with being out in nature. That lifestyle influences how he views good design and the way a home should support how people live.

John is known for being reliable, straight up and committed to doing things properly. His focus is always on building homes that people enjoy living in and delivering a result he can stand proudly behind.

Co-Founder

Luke Dalley

Starting out for a local construction company at sixteen is where Luke gained experience across a wide range of residential work. Over the years he built a strong foundation in the trade, becoming a qualified builder and a Licensed Building Practitioner.

That early start shaped the way he works today. Luke understands the practical side of construction as well as the broader vision of development, and he brings both together in the way MOHS homes are designed and delivered.

As a co-founder of MOHS Developments, he focuses on creating homes that feel considered, well built and timeless. He works closely with clients, consultants and the wider team to keep every stage clear, efficient and on track.

Away from work, Luke spends most of his time outdoors. He’s a keen mountain biker and road cyclist and enjoys anything that gets him outside and active. That love for the outdoors influences the way he thinks about design, flow and the way people live in their homes.

Luke is known for being approachable and solutions focused. He takes real pride in building homes across Christchurch and Selwyn that look sharp, function well and stand the test of time.

We bought our home off the plans with Mohs Developments and it turned out to be an experience we genuinely enjoyed. Being able to personalise the finishes made the place feel like ours right from the start and the team were great at guiding us through the choices.
